There’s several reasons why you might run out of hot water, but not all of them mean you need a plumber…

Did you know there are different types of hot water systems? At Poseidon Plumbing & Drainage, we work with both electric and gas instantaneous and storage units.

Storage hot water systems heat the water and hold it in the tank until it’s used. Most storage systems reheat in off peak periods, typically overnight. If you find you are regularly running out of hot water, it could mean you are using all of the available hot water between heating cycles.

Before getting in touch, we recommend keeping an eye on your hot water usage and noting when it is running out. If it’s fine in summer but you always seem to run out in winter, perhaps it’s time to dial back those long, hot showers.

Still running out? It might be time to upgrade to a larger system.

Instantaneous hot water systems heat the water when the tap is turned on. Whether it’s a gas or electric system, if your water isn’t getting hot it is likely an issue with the fuel source. For gas systems, check if you’re out of gas - you might simply be due for a topup. For electric systems, see if power to the circuit has tripped. If you discover the power has tripped, an electrician should be your first point of contact instead.
